Screenwriting 101 – Assignment 3: Write a 48 Hour Movie Script!
Hi everyone,
This exercise is based on how scripts are created in 48 Hour film competitions, in which each team is assigned a genre, then given a prop, character name and occupation, and a line of dialogue. In the competitions, each team only has 48 hours to write the script and then film it and edit it and turn it in, after which it plays with a bunch of other short movies in the movie theater. In our case, you’ve got almost a week.
The script needs to contain these elements. For this exercises, your script can be up to 5 pages long.
- Genre: Use the picker wheel below to be assigned a genre
- Prop (must appear in your script): A can of soup.
- Character: Lee Kramer
- Character’s occupation: Freelance illustrator
- Line of dialogue: “I think it’s burning.”
