An Upcoming Audition
Rekindle will be holding auditions for a new science fiction web series on Saturday, August 31, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The actors will be auditioned in small groups. Auditions are by appointment and will be done in small groups:
- Group 1: 10 a.m-11 a.m
- Group 2: 11 a.m.-12 p.m
- Group 3: 12 p.m.-1 p.m.
- Group 4: 1 p.m.-2 p.m.
If you sign up for a time slot, plan on showing up about 10 minutes early and being there, if needed, for the full hour. Please read this whole email before applying to audition.
What’s a web series?
- A web series is a series of short videos that are released online in episodic form. (They are typically released first on Youtube.)
- A series can be anywhere from 6 to 12 episodes per season; ours will have 6 episodes.
- I will be looking for some actors to play recurring roles and some to play one-shot roles.
- This series will be released initially on Youtube. I may ask people to read for more than one role.
What’s the story about?
- The working title is Down In The Valley.
- It’s a somewhat surreal SF series set about thirty years in the future… a little quirky and weird. There’s some humor and satire but it’s mostly a drama. If you liked the kinds of scenes we performed in class, you’ll like the series.
- The central characters are a middle aged woman, her father and mother, her clients (she’s a therapist), some seedy sorts she has dealings with, and her daughter and son, who are in their early 20s.
- There are also many supporting characters.
- When you sign up to audition, I’ll send out sides, or script excerpts, to look over before the audition. (You will not need to memorize anything pre-audition; it’ll be a “warm read” in which you’ll have a script in hand.)
What kind of roles are you looking to cast?
- There will be roles for people of all types, body sizes, races, and ages, and for both characters with lines and background extras.
Is this a paid job?
- This project is a labor of love, which means it’s being done just for fun, not for pay.
- It’s being produced by Rekindle School.
- Though there is no financial compensation, actors will receive a copy of any episode they are in to use in their actor reel.
Where is the audition held?
The one on Saturday 8/31 will be held at the Broadview branch of the Seattle PublicLibrary in their main meeting room.
Who can apply to audition?
- The first round of auditions (the ones on 8/31) are only open to current or former Rekindle school students.
- If some roles aren’t cast, I may later open up auditions to actors not affiliated with the school.
- As a former student in one of my acting or film classes, you are welcome to audition if you’d like.
Are there non-actor roles?
- Yes, I will be looking for people to help with designing, making and modifying costumes and props and finding locations, creating a musical score, audio editing, and with behind the scenes production.
- I am also looking for a volunteer on Saturday to help out in the audition, and will be looking for folks to help out with production in various ways.
How do I apply to audition?
- If you’d like to audition, please reply and let me know which time slot, or time slots, will work for you.
- If you have a headshot and a link to your actor reel, feel free to send them along if you like (it’s good practice to do so). But since I know all of you from former classes, there’s no requirement to do so.
When is filming?
Filming will be on Saturday Nov. 30, Dec. 7 and Dec. 14. (We’re getting an early start on the auditions)
Want to help out in other ways?
- If you don’t want to audition but would like to volunteer on Saturday to help out with the audition, please let me know.
Cheers,
Nils
