Acting 104: Expressive Acting

In this Seattle acting class, we‘ll do exercises in emotional range and what intuitive acting. There’s no pressure to cry or laugh or get a little angry in class, but if you want to, or your character does, it’s a chance to roll with it and see what happens.

For example, imagine reading “Mary Had A Little Lamb” and getting angry about it, or exploring the text in “Humpty Dumpty” as a deep philosophical commentary on death and rebirth and making omelettes for breakfast.

The emotional side of acting isn’t about learning to laugh or cry on cue, it’s about finding the emotions in a scene, but also letting ourselves be real in the moment without getting stuck in the emotions we’re exploring. We’ll do deep scenes and silly ones, get some practice in seeing how both fit into acting – and get practice in exploring emotions naturally, then letting them go and moving on to the next scene.

This class is for ages 17 and older (or by permission of instructor). It can be taken by itself just for fun, or applied toward our Acting Fundamentals Certificate. Instructor: Nils Osmar
