Acting 103 Assignment – Ali and Shay

This week’ss assignment i to memorize this short script below and to do some script analysis, focusing in particular on the characters and personality types.
Ask yourself: Who are the characters? (Who’s Ali? Who’s Shay?) What impression do you get from the script?/ What are eachh of them like? And what’s their relationship? What clues are in the script? Why is Shay waiting up for Ali? Why is Ali telling Shay all about their experiences with “the new guy”? How might the scene be different if you made different choices and the characters had different objectives?

Back story:

Ali is 22 years old. Shay is at least 42..
They met at a bar a few months ago, then at a mutual friend’s party. They ended up sleeping together snf Ali moved into Shay’s place. A week later, they broke up. Since then, Ali has been staying in Shay’s place without paying rent… Ali’s supposedly “looking for a place” but hasn’t moved out yet.

Ali’s objective might be to get Shay to realize their relationship is really done and over by telling Shay the blunt truth about the guy Ali went out with (and all the other guys since their breakup)
Ali might be trying to make Shay jealous.
Ali might be trying to get Shay’s approval – i.e., trying to impress Shay with the supposed good choices Ali is now making, however weird they are, i.e., “He’s a doctor, you know. Or he will be…”

Shay might be worried about Ali and trying to get Ali to make safer life choices.
Shay might be in love with Ali and wanting to get back together.
Shay might be a little tired of the drama and looking for an excuse to end their friendship permanently.
