Acting 102 – Assignment 2 – Blue Folder 2

This week’s assignment has several parts – scroll down to see them all:

Part 1: Memorize the scene below (Blue Folder Version 2)

  • It may seem like the same scene we did (at first), but it’s not. It just has a few lines that are similar in the beginning.
  • Learn the lines of at least one character. )You can learn Jan or Ro, or both.)
  • Do a little script analysis too, asking yourself: Who’s Jan? Who’s Ro? What might each of them want in this scene?

Part 2: More Script analysis

  1. Part 2 is to read over the scene below and do some script analysis and scene study.
  2. IMPORTANT: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MEMORIZE THIS SCENE. But do give it some thought.
  3. As yourself: Who’s Kai? What’s his goal (scene objective)?
  4. Who’s Maggie? What’s her goal (scene objective)?
  5. Kai’s objective will probably be clearer than Maggie’s, he has something he clearly wants; but she has something she’s trying to do too.

Part 3: Watch the clip below

  • In this scene from the TV series The Walking Dead, a character named Maggie goes into the jail cell of a character named Negan.
  • The backstory is that Negan murdered Maggie’s husband and several other characters Maggie cared about. Maggie’s plan (objective) when she goes into his cell is to kill him. Her motivation is her anger over the murders and a need for justice.
  • Negan’s objective (what he wants from Maggie) is somewhat hidden at first, and may not become clear until halfway through the scene.
  • In both cases, you’ll notice that the character’s objective is driving the scene from the actor’s point of view. Each is focused totally into their objective from the moment Maggie walks into Negan’s cell.
